The Eagle Way is the framework we use at HCS to ensure that our culture aligns with our mission. It also provides us with common language and expectations across our staff and students. Our goal is that students know what these words look like, sound like, and feel like in real life – that these five habits would be true of our students now and for the rest of their lives!

Excellence

Give your best – not perfection.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord." – Colossians 3:23

Excellence means coming to class prepared and giving your best effort to accomplish quality work. Excellence isn't the same as perfection – it means doing what we can with what we have and honoring God in the effort.

Accountability

Own your attitude. Own your effort. Own your actions.

Clear expectations + consistent follow-through + a path to make it right.

Accountability means telling the truth, being willing to receive correction without excuses or blame, and working to repair what you can. Accountability works because our staff are clear, consistent, and willing to model it to.

Growth

We are not expecting students to have arrived.

We are expecting them to keep moving forward.

Growth looks like trying something, receiving feedback, adjusting, and trying again. Growth is something that we strive to achieve in all areas including academically, socially, spiritually, and personally.

Leadership

Leadership is not a title. It is influence.

At HCS, leadership should look like service, humility, encouragement, and example.

We believe that every student can lead, not just captains, seniors, or the loudest voice in the room. We strive to empower students to become leaders who serve, encourage, include, and model what is right.

Engagement

Be where your feet are.

Presence is more than sitting in a room.

Engagement is critical to both learning and investing in others. Engagement looks like listening, participating, asking questions, connecting, and encouraging others.
